Killed: James A Young II was struck by the roller coaster
A man has been killed after he was hit by a roller coaster while trying to retrieve items he had dropped on the ride.
James
A Young II, 45, was struck by the Raptor ride at Ohio's Cedar Point
amusement park around 5pm on Thursday, police confirmed.
He was struck from behind in the back of the head and died at the scene, ABC5 reported.
Young,
who was visiting the park from Canton, Ohio, jumped over a fence to get
into the restricted area when he was hit, Sandusky Assistant Police
Chief Phil Frost said.
Wild ride: The Raptor roller coaster reaches a top speed of 57mph
Frost added that the victim was struck by the actual ride, not a passenger, and no other injuries had been reported.
The
Raptor has a top speed of 57mph and turns riders upside down six times
during the two-minute experience, according to the Cedar Point website.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family," the park said in a statement
